Pour sand, water, fire and lava onto a black canvas and watch what happens. There is no goal, only experiments.

What is Sand Game?

Sand Game v1.2 is a falling sand sandbox. The screen is a black canvas made of tiny grains. You choose an element from the list under the canvas and draw it with the mouse. Each grain then follows simple rules: sand falls and piles up, water flows sideways, fire burns, and plants grow into water.

The fun comes from mixing. Salt dissolves in water and makes salt water. Fire lights oil and gunpowder. Lava melts what it touches. There is no score and no level. You build something and see what the rules do to it.

How to play

Start with Wall. Draw a cup shape near the bottom of the canvas. Then choose Sand and draw above it, and watch it fill the cup. Add Water next to the sand and see how the two behave in different ways.

The canvas starts with spouts at the top that pour elements down. Use the Eraser to remove them if you want a clean canvas.

3 tips

  1. Build containers from Wall first. Loose elements spread across the floor and are hard to control.
  2. Try Plant next to Water. The plant grows into the water, and then you can burn it with Fire.
  3. Use Fuse to make a slow line of fire that reaches Gunpowder or C-4 later.

Questions

Is there a goal in Sand Game?

No. It is a sandbox. You make your own goals, such as building a dam or a volcano.

How do I clear the screen?

Choose the Eraser and draw over the grains you want to remove. Reloading the page also starts a fresh canvas.

Why does the game slow down?

Every grain is simulated. When the canvas is very full, older laptops slow down. Erase some grains to speed it up.
